Groundbreaking at Skelton Primary School
Pupils, staff, and project team recently gathered to
celebrate the official groundbreaking of the new
Skelton Primary School in Redcar and Cleveland.
Armed with a silver spade, pupils (the construction
crew as they now call themselves) helped turn the first
turf, marking an exciting step toward a brand-new
learning environment for the community.
Designed for the DfE and as part of the Tilbury Dougals
team, the new school will replace the existing facilities
with a modern, purpose-built building designed to
support a contemporary teaching and learning
environment. The development will provide flexible
classrooms, early years provision, shared learning
spaces, as dedicated SEND provision and a muchimproved outdoor play and sports area.
Sustainability and pupil wellbeing are at the heart of
the design, delivering nett zero carbon in operation,
with air source heat pumps and a bio solar green roof.
The layout also enhances access and connectivity while
preserving green space for play and outdoor learning.
With construction now underway, the project
represents an exciting investment in the future of
Skelton’s young learners and the wider community.
