Sketching Workshop

Neil Turner had the pleasure of hosting a Skill Shop event at
Newcastle University at the invitation of the Student
Architectural Association, to discuss how to draw (with
pencils and felt- tips pens!) and its importance to Architects.
Drawing is what separates Architects from many other
consultants.
In an age of visualisation and computer modelling, the art of
sketching is still important to all Architects, when they meet
clients and discuss works.
Neil was able to show the students a number of famous
Architects and the value of their drawings in their design
process – for creating ideas, discussing ideas and creating
great architecture.
The lecture involved all the students drawing together and
being encouraged to take part. It was great to see so many
active students take part in an enjoyable session.
At HL, we consider this mentoring and teaching a vital part of
the active association that the practice has with local
educational facilities, including schools, colleges and
universities.
The practice supports, mentors, and teaches to create the
next generation of Architects, Surveyors and Technologists.
